Apologies to anyone who actually read it for my extended absence. Knitting time has been scarce lately, but that doesn't mean I don't have a ton of projects going. And I'm getting back to a point where I need to reorganize and finish some things. Tonight, I'm looking at what's on the needles and in the bag and try to see what needs to get done first. Plus, I discovered while cleaning out old projects that there's a mouse in my basement and a couple of projects had to be tossed due to poor storage and mouse chewage. Time to get the WIP list back under control and set some goals for the coming year. WIPs on Ravelry

Woven Baby Blanket: not knitting or crochet. weaving squares on a potholder loom. Loc: desk.

Skull Hat - Round Two: if he loses this one, there may be violence. But I love him and will probably make a third. Loc: desk.

Potholder for Mom: Adventures in double knitting. Loc: desk.

Barbie Sweater: for the girls and their new found doll love. Loc: desk.

Wedding Rings Blanket for Miss Suzi: I might finish before their first anniversary - or not. It needs to be bigger. Loc: desk.

Chevron Bag: just needs the handle finished - the long, boring handle. Loc: desk.

Work Sleeves: old project that I never finished, but I still want to. Loc: basement.

Doc Socks: my doctor's appointment project. Seeing as there have been many of those recently, I'm already on the second sock. Loc: desk.

Geschenk: tiny bit of lace for me. Loc: desk.

Plain Scarf: simple scarf to show off a colorful yarn. Loc: basement.

Noro Cowl: another fun one just to show off the yarn. Loc: basement.

Hexipuffs: another scrap-based blanket - for my finer yarn. Loc: desk.

Scrap Yarn Rug: this one gets attention as I get yarn scraps, but it grows. Loc: basement.

So, my plan as it stands is to work my way back down to 10, and keep it there. Trying really hard not to start anything new, but I know I need to get cracking on a second baby blanket soon. People around me need to space their pregnancies better - I am not a machine. (jk) To start, I'm focusing my energy on three at a time, with a little jumping around for variety. My main project gets first billing, then extra time can go to the second one. Tentative Schedule for November:

21: Woven Blanket & Barbie Sweater

22: Skull Hat & Wedding Rings

23: Potholder & Chevron

24: Woven & Work Sleeves

25: Skull & Doc

26: Potholder & Geschenk

27: Woven & Plain

28: Skull & Noro

29: Potholder & Hexipuffs

30: Woven & Scrap Rug

Wish me luck!!

I started a set of slippers for the girls July 1, so I'm finishing off these first before I go work on my WIP's (plus I can use it for HPKCHC). I'm trying really hard this month to pick up one and work it till it's done, so we'll see how that goes. I'm hoping that this month sees me making a lot of posts to Detention (HPKCHC thing).

So, for this month:

One project at a time.

Make a post and update Rav when I finish something.

Concentrate on getting my WIPs done.

Incentive: I can start one new project next month for each old one I finish this month.

eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-18373646749465103632011-06-08T10:43:00.000-07:002011-06-08T10:54:12.671-07:00June Project Checkup
Unfinished Beasties:

Kathie's Potholder

Baby Snow Dragon

Animal Crackers Hat

Blue Gabu in Kitchen

Market Bag

New Stuff:

Groovyghan (just a little at a time and I'll finish it eventually)

New Skully Hat for Jon (thinking of getting some Chroma to work the skully part)

Jamie's Blanket

Tatted Bookmark

Stuff I Want to Start:

Bamboo Yarn: Shifting Sands and add buttons to make a shrug for work

Purple/Beige: Blanket with Circle Star square pattern

Chunky: find a nice cable pattern for a scarf

Marina: this

Tundra: this

Things I Wanna Finish This Year:

February: (WIP) Crochet dress for Maggie (get back on it)

May: Socks for my son (4) - aiming for Kilt hose for September

June: New <a href="http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEdf10/PATTkilravock.php" style="color: rgb(71, 54, 36); Now that the project I've been sweating since last September is off my plate, it's time to take a look at the rest of my knitting.

I've still got the girls' jackets to finish, but I'm not so sure that's going to happen. There will be a purchase of backup sweaters, but I'm still going to try and hit the deadline. I'm pretty close to being done with the first one, and the neckband on #2 is complete, so I may have less work on those than I think.

After the wedding, I'll be taking another look at my projects and working up a schedule I can live with - as well as putting a few new things on my plate as HPKCHC gets going again next month!!eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-36994843864608493102011-03-15T15:44:00.001-07:002011-03-15T15:49:14.658-07:00March UpdateFinished for March: 2 (2011 total: 12)

Garterlac Dishcloth

Raspberry Beret

New March Schedule:

Mar 15, 19, 23, 27, 28: Shipwreck Shawl

Mar 16, 20, 24, 29: Shrugs for Girls (OBTW, the dresses are in and they are CUTE!)

Mar 17, 21, 25, 30: Crochet Dress

Mar 18, 22, 26, 31: Class Project (Noro Cowl)

So, that's where I'm at now. I want to get moving on this and maybe have it done for the bridal shower in April.

April: (WIP)Two matching shrugs - Two collars done, moving into the first body now!

May: Socks for my son (4) - he'll need kilt hose for the wedding, after all, so I need to get a pattern together ASAP.

June: New kilt hose for Daddy - planning on ordering the yarn for this after the wedding.

July: (WIP) Dollar and a Half Cardigan - also a back burner, after the wedding.

August: (WIP) Skew sock needs a second sock- still!

September: (WIP) squishy Noro scarf- sits untouched this month.

October: (WIP) Lion Homespun Blanket - waay back burner.

November: (WIP) my Jeannie shawl - not a stitch this month.

December: As a present to myself, if I can clear out most or all of this list, I’d like to make this just for me - well, this will most likely sit on my list until sometime mid-December, when I finally clear out the list.

What's in the Bag (March):

Shipwreck Shawl

Girls Shrugs for Wedding

Scarf to match Charity Hat - using up the rest of the yarn

Raspberry Beret (didn't finish in time for HPKCHC for February, but so close to being done!)

Still need to go look at class assignments for March for HPKCHC, so there will be more to add, plus I need to write and post my schedule for this month!

HPKCHC Ideas/Attempts:

DADA: Noro Cowl. I scrapped an idea I had for a scarf last month and now have this huge ball of Noro Kureyon that needs a project. Found a cute cowl/circular scarf type pattern and now I'm off!

Muggle Studies: Having worked out a (somewhat) pattern for a knitted Vaseline jar cozy, I think I'll give it a go this month. Failing that, I amy indulge in a Garterlac washcloth.

HoM: Bowling Gloves. Nuff sed.

Potions (or charms): I made some nice lacy socks for my mom for Christmas and still have most of a ball of the yarn left (alpaca/silk blend - yum!). I think she might dig a lacy scarf to throw on for church or mildly chilly spring-type days.

Transfiguration: Tempted to put myself down for a washcloth (spot remover) but we'll see when the time comes. I have a bit of reading/queue checking to do for this one.

Herbology: I found a super-cute crochet pattern for a bouquet and I'd like to give it a try just for funsies.

Arithmancy: As mathy as I am, I got nothing here. I'll let you know after I do some pattern-spelunking.

NOW, I'm done.eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-72663343210379386612011-02-09T03:35:00.000-08:002011-02-09T03:39:54.253-08:00Maggie's Dress Finished!*ack! can't find my little progress bar thingie!*

Well, anywho - February FO Count = 1. I'm on sock #1, about an inch up the leg, planning for a 2.5" leg and 1" of cuff.

Planning for Tonight: Taking some time off baby doll stuff to put a couple more rows on the shawl, then back to either the jumper or socks. I still need to find a pants/top pattern.

Also, I have been eating waay healthier for about three days now and feeling very nice. I've been following a diet (sort of) and packing lunch, rather than availing myself of the cafe downstairs at work. Expecting the numbers on the scale to change (a little) in about a week or so. Got three kids to eat salad.eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-73882922990719390872011-01-16T05:28:00.000-08:002011-01-16T05:41:08.855-08:00January - Halfway ThroughWell, I've been working away at baby doll clothes for a week or so now, and I am almost through the fluffiest. damn. doll. dress. ever. Seriously, I've run though two complete skeins of acrylic, part of a third and I'm still not done. As of last night, I'm within about three rows of done if I don't make the goofy underpants. I'm not making two of these. So, I decided to go with making the floofy pile of awesomeness, a jumper and maybe a pants and top along with a couple pairs of socks.

Been putting some thought to knitting for charity and found a couple of options in the area - I'll go on at length about this when I have better plans laid out.

Put a couple of rows on the shawl and on my 12 in 2011 January Project.

Also starting this: I want to see what I'm really getting done, for all my whining about starting and not finishing, I want to see what is getting done.

2011 FO Count: 2eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-4096727117569022592011-01-09T15:39:00.000-08:002011-01-09T16:29:31.801-08:00January and More FunFriday night, I sit down to patiently work my way through this month's selected projects (btw, that would be the knit dress for the girls, working on the shawl and a couple of things I had in mind for HPKCHC) and it hits me. It's January. I have two girls, who happen to have been born in January. They expect birthday presents. I should make them something. Thank goodness I knit (or, as we will see - crochet).

The next sound you hear will be the sound of all my other intended January projects grinding to a screeching halt. Except for the hats for HPKCHC - those are done. (Hey, I finished something! Woohoo!) Now, my time is consumed with crocheting two sufficiently frilly doll dresses, then two miniature jumpers, then four teeny pairs of socks. If there's time, maybe some hats, or baby-bunting-type things. I have until the 28th, after all. Two days in, and I'm almost done with the first dress.

I have also been infected with the doll clothes bug. I now know why my mom seemed obsessed with creating a tiny wardrobe for baby and Barbie alike. It is the essence of instant gratification crafting. It's the complete garment on a small, quick-to-finish scale. I don't know if I'll ever fully recover. My queue is full of doll clothes patterns, and I'm considering taking up sewing for lighter items. My scrap sock yarn is in danger of becoming so many pairs of teeny lacy socks.

I am less confident in my abilities to finish the shawl by May. Welcome to Sidetracked Crafting.eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-76796014648955587802011-01-04T16:27:00.000-08:002011-01-04T16:34:54.468-08:00New Pattern!
OK, kids - have at. Completely restarted in a new yarn (after midnight of course!) and I want to put some significant time on it this month.

Charms January 2011 (HPKCHC): Stalking a fellow first year - making a Walk In the Park hat for a recipient still to be decided.

Herbology January 2010 (HPKCHC): Making a very fun Pomp A Doodle scarf for Misses Maggie and Joan to play with. I've felt some strange self punishing urge to play with this yarn and Maggie has developed a fondness for scarves lately.

Planning to put in some time on the shawl o' doom as well as the girls' shrugs, now that I've found a better yarn.

That sounds like a sufficiently busy January. Add to that a nightgown that needs a sleeve fixed and a pair of pants that needs patching and it will be a busy January, indeed.eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-77787798294119981692010-12-29T03:27:00.000-08:002010-12-29T03:32:02.700-08:00Just Getting Ready for Next Year

(from Ravelry's 12 in 2011 group )

January: (WIP) knit dress for the girls - need to restart in a lighter yarn

February: (WIP) Crochet dress for Joan

March: (WIP)Shipwreck Shawl for my sister in law as a wedding present

April: (WIP)Two matching shrugs for my twin daughters (turning 2) who will be participating in said wedding

May: Socks for my son (4) to match the girls’ shrugs (he will also be involved in the wedding)

June: By this point, Daddy will surely need new kilt hose as well for the games in September and I’vebeen dying to make these

July: (WIP) Dollar and a Half Cardigan needs to be finished

August: (WIP) Skew sock needs a second sock

September: (WIP) squishy Noro scarf

October: (WIP) I know it’s kind of lame, but I started a blanket in Lion Homespun and I’d like to finish it. Neener neener. Still, all that's left is the leg and cuff, maybe 2-2.5" more overall. Then, we weave in ends and make an attempt at blocking. Then, we go finish wrapping Mom's present.

Andy's Sweater: Sleeve one is attached and has a cuff, sleeve 2 is more than halfway done. Yaay!

Oh, yeah and in the middle of all this, I did manage a hat and scarf (finished Christmas Day!) for Sarah for her birthday. So that's what's been taking me so long ...

I had to restart the shrugs for the girls for the wedding. After seeing fabric samples for the dresses next to the original yarn, we decided it was too pink and I found a nice terra cotta in a sport weight cotton blend, so the jackets will be a bit thicker, but still washable and actually better for the pattern than what I had originally planned to use. Plus, the thicker yarn will knit up faster. Oh, and I broke my size 4 Zephyr tips (knitpicks acrylic needles). These needles do not like being stressed and do not mix well with tense knitting.

Added a whole row to the shwal in the past month - I foresee a stint in Detention for the month of April in HPKCHC. Oh, and on that, I got sorted into the Hufflepuff House!! Wheee!

Projects I've Been Ignoring/Avoiding that Will Need to be Done This Year:

Beully Dress

Jeanie Wrap

Skew Sock #2

Buck.5 Cardigan

Homespun Blanket From Hell

Ok, that's that for now. Repeatedly.

So, short version of Christmas - kids had a blast with all the grandparents, made out like bandits. My parents apparently no longer love me, as they got baby dolls that TALK TO EACH OTHER for the girls. (Thank goodness for small miracles like the OFF switch.) Andy has been giving everyone and everything he can get his hands on a checkup and shots with his play-doctor kit.

And I got a new camera!! Yay no more crappy phone pictures!! I did have a chance to take pictures of the socks I'm making for Mom - finished one and almost done with #2.

... AAAnd Flickr is being a beast and won't let me post pics. For once last night, I set aside my chores and worries about not being productive enough and I just played with my kids.

When did I let laundry overtake snuggle time? When did crap I dragged home from work out-rate spending time getting to know my family again?

As the sun rises after the longest night of the year, I want the sun to rise in my life as well. I know that I have responsibilites and obligations, sometimes the crap that follows me home needs to be done. Laundry doesn't wash itself, and people need to eat. But I want the magic back. I want to share life with my kids, I want to enjoy time with my husband. I want this "not good enough, not clean enough, not productive enough" to stop following me around.

I want to be a blessing to my family, and enjoy the blessing that they are to me.eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-29379854316001063552010-12-07T11:33:00.000-08:002010-12-07T11:51:24.578-08:00Weekend Knitting and Other StuffI suppose I owe you all an update on my current projects and whether or not I've been keeping up with my schedule. (That would be ... em, sort of.)

Here we go:

Mom's Socks - up to the cuff on Sock 1. I opted to go with a short ankle-type cuff rather than a long section of leg due to the fact that the super-soft and super-light alpaca/silk yarn is utterly floppy and I'd have to knit elastic into the leg to get it to hold like a sock should. So, soft silky slippy ankle socks it is. Up against the schedule, I'm actually a day ahead so I'll pick up the socks again Wednesday.

Andy's Sweater - Got more yarn, finished the collar and got the first half of one sleeve done. On this one, I'm about a day behind, as I should be finishing up the second half of that sleeve today. Guess what I'm working on tonight?

Shawl: Honestly, I haven't touched it all weekend, as I've been wanting to focus on getting my mom's socks finished for Christmas. It's not like I don't have until April to get this thing done (famous last words, huh?) I readjusted the schedule for this (now expecting to finish mid-March) and I've got Round 63 on my plate today.

Girls Jackets: Another one I left go over the weekend. I tinkered with that schedule a bit too and now I'm just due to finish 2"of neck strap tonight. There's less wiggle room in this schedule due to the fact I have to make 2, but still enough that I'm not worried. Plus, as I get closer to finishing Christmas and the shawl, I'll be able to put in more time to finish both jackets.

So, that's where I'm at and what I'm looking forward to getting through tonight. I also entered my socks and the sweater for Andy in Wizard's Chess over at HPKCHC on Ravelry. It's a fun group - you should check it out. It's actually helping me finish projects, especially things like birthday presents. Plus I get to check out what everybody else is working on!eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-32503841367990511342010-12-03T03:13:00.000-08:002010-12-03T03:19:33.518-08:00GAAAAHH!Last night was an exercise in frustration. Andy decided he was going to keep me running up and down the stairs until about 11pm, so I only got a little bit of working time in between trips to put him back in bed. I am now almost halfway through a sleeve, adn dangerously close to out of yarn for his sweater, so it's back in the bag with this one until I can make it out to get more yarn.

Tonight, I'm planning on doing the gusset (up to the heel turn) on the sock, still need to put three rows on the shawl and two inches on the neck strap. If I can get out to get yarn, I'll be finishing the collar and the rest of the first sleeve on the sweater. If not, I'll catch up over the weekend.

Now, to justify to myself why knitting takes precedence over laundry and doing work that I brought home with me ....eviebitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12923564071847366975noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945231262483465044.post-11223157051484957592010-12-02T15:46:00.000-08:002010-12-02T16:37:36.637-08:00Socks!!I'm at 6" on the first sock now, planning to work the gusset up to the heel turning tomorrow night. So, tonight I still need to finish the texture section of the first sleeve for Andy's sweater, put two rows on the shawl and add another inch to the neck piece for the first of two sweaters for my ladies. Progress pictures will be forthcoming as soon as I figure out my stupid phone.

Done!
